XCRi Seminar Report

XCRi Seminar – 7 September 2009, at MMU

Introduction to XCRi( Exchanging Course Related Information).

The XCRi seminar, like the schema was excellent as an effective exchange of practical experience and ideas.

For the CCLiP partners, we are engaged in our first full XCRi implementation experience and Patrick O’Reilly, Bolton, gave some very practical pointers, such as different feeds for U/G and P/G. Hearing of the creation of a search tool for use with XCRi in the Worcester project was extremely useful and Kirstie Coolin, Nottingham, a veteran in cross-sector XCRi implementation gave valuable advice on the nuts and bolts of implementation and problem solving.

The group affirmed that the XCRi feed was relatively straightforward; however, determining data controllers and related cultural issues were the common hurdles experienced by institutions.

The XCRi ‘gang’ are a fount of knowledge. There was a lively discussion on the ‘University of Scott (Wilson)’, and what an ideal comprehensive XCRi adoption could bring, including enhanced data management capability with the Higher Education Achievement Report. Alan Paull generously offered to test XCRi feeds and his information on field extensions was particularly helpful in relation to our partner cultural employers.

Mark’s overview of the development of XCRi from conception in Ty’n Ross and Manchester, through to European compliance next year was acknowledged as an outstanding achievement. It is a privilege to be working with such committed, experienced and generous experts.
